Dewitt's Incognito 2008, a Monstrously Steampunk Watch

Monstrous is the first word that comes to mind when gazing upon the Dewitt Incognito 2008, a design that is the lovechild of a a collaboration between DeWitt and French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. At first glance, the Incognito looks to be a little fat and perhaps clumsy; on closer inspection, however, you can see what a truly amazing timepiece this is. Technical aspects of the Incognito are most impressive, it features a flying tourbillon which is used to counteract the force of gravity and keep the watch accurate. There are also five barrels and has a power reserve that ought to keep you covered for up to three weeks.

The watch is overblown in absolutely every way imaginable, with a definite steampunk vibe; all part of the appeal. The riveted case makes for quite a long watch which would probably be more of a timekeeping gauntlet than a wristwatch, not that I am complaining; this thing has presence.

As you can imagine, all of this heavy metal, leather and fine clockwork costs a pretty penny; Jimmy Tan of Prince Jewellery and Watch Company in Hong Kong snapped up the Incognito '08 for a lazy 400,000 Euro or $632,941.

Google’s Index Now on Your Wrist with GWatch Launch

While we are supposed to be under embargo on this until later today, we wanted to be the first to show you the latest breakthrough to be offered by Google. The Google Watch, or GWatch for short.

The Google USB Search Watch (Model #8002RPA10; estimated retail $89) will bring Google’s popular search engine technology to a wristwatch. Apparently users will be able to use a modified Google API to view search results on your wrist. At launch, the “GWatch” will be limited to local search results–your zip, city, or state. Google has plans to turn the GWatch into a mobile Chumby-like device–adding widgets, RSS feeds, and YouTube videos in the future. By plugging the watch into your computer and downloading the compressed local index, you’ll be able to search more than 100 million geo-targeted web pages.

Wondering how the interface works? Apparently, Google is using the same voice recognition software it uses for GOOG-411. By pushing the right-hand dial-adjuster, you’ll be able to “tell” GWatch what you are looking for. Results will then be streamed across the watch face, similar to a stock ticker or live RSS feed.

Google insiders tell me that if the product is a success, they will offer a WiMAX version of the watch that will free it from the restrictions of storing the index within the watch and allow users to search the entire Google index.

A Limited Edition of 6,000 Pieces

The first hand-wound mechanical movement in the TAG Heuer Carrera series since 1996, this limited edition of 6,000 watches hosts a movement that was historically used in the pocket watches of the 1960s.

The polished steel case measures 43mm. The small second’s hand at 6 o'clock with a semi-circular graduation has a rhodium hand indicating 0 to 30 seconds and a red hand indicating 30 to 60 seconds. Clous de Paris decoration is used on the movement and on the rubber strap. The crystal is sapphire with AR coating, and it features a display back.
